The English rock band The Libertines have been teasing fans with news of a big announcement on Friday (October 13). On Wednesday (October 9), the band posted a short video on Twitter that featured a mix of both old and new material.
The video also included a snippet of what is assumed to be a new track from the highly anticipated upcoming album. In September, Libertines drummer Gary Powell hinted that the record will be released in January 2024.
The band has been hard at work on the album since 2019, and even spent time recording in Jamaica last year. During an interview with NME’s In Conversation series, frontman Carl Barat said they are looking to make something with a different energy than before. The band has also recently released details of a new track called ‘Shiver’, which Doherty described as having a sentimental feel to earlier Libertines tracks.
Powell told NME that the focus is on “forging forward” with the new album. The band is looking to challenge themselves with the project, with Doherty comparing it to the diverse sound of The Clash’s ‘Sandinista’.
The Libertines’ last album, ‘Anthems For Doomed Youth’, was released in 2015. NME’s Matt Wilkinson described the album as the most rounded album The Libertines have ever made. Fans of the band are eagerly awaiting the release of the band’s fourth album, and hopefully the announcement on Friday will shed some light on the mystery.
