Super Junior star Heechul has opened up about his thoughts on continuing his career as an idol in a recent interview. The singer, who first debuted with SM Entertainment’s boy group in 2005, has since released solo material and been a part of several sub-units, such as Super Junior-T.
The star recently appeared on the Youtube series Thursday Night, hosted by URBAN ZAKAPA’s Cho Hyuna, and confessed that his view on idol life has changed since his twenties.
“In my twenties, I used to feel so proud of myself after each performance,” Heechul reflected, “but the older I get, the more shy and embarrassed I feel to perform on stage.”
He also expressed his admiration for Super Junior’s members, who are currently in their 40s and looking great. Heechul elaborated, “Yesung told me that we should continue being idols in our 50s and 60s, but that clashes with my view. I want to quit being an idol – it’s just my career, not my life.”
Heechul’s bandmate Kyuhyun revealed recently that he was “made” to get plastic surgery, and had double eyelid surgery. The star expressed his disappointment at the criticism he received for this, saying it was “really mean” for people to call him a “plastic monster” when the only surgery he had was double eyelid surgery.
With age, Heechul noted that he was struggling with the changes to his appearance, but explained that he wasn’t confident enough to quit drinking and eating carbs, as it would mean “losing his happiness”.
No matter what the future holds, it’s clear that Heechul is a K-pop star with a lot of passion and admiration for his fellow bandmates.
