Doja Cat recently took part in BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge Month as the final guest, and mesmerized listeners with a stunning cover of Hiatus Kaiyote’s ‘Red Room’. The singer and rapper also performed two of her own songs during her set, ‘Paint The Town Red’ and ‘Agora Hills’, from her recently released album ‘Scarlet’.

Doja Cat’s cover and performance was a highly sought-after one for fans, as other stars who have taken part in BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge Month have put their own spin on popular hits. Usher performed Daniel Caesar and H.E.R.’s ‘Best Part’, Olivia Rodrigo covered Noah Kahan’s ‘Stick Season’, Jorja Smith sang Harry Styles’ ‘As It Was’, and Troye Sivan showcased a rendition of Billie Eilish‘s Barbie track ‘What Was I Made For’.

Doja Cat’s ‘Scarlet’ album has been met with major success since its release in September, and features singles ‘Attention’ and ‘Demons’. In a review of the record, NME described the sound of the songs as “a much tougher affair” than heard on her previous releases, and an LP that “repositions Doja as a rapper first and singer second.”

Doja Cat recently revealed why she changed the title of the album from ‘Hellmouth’ to ‘Scarlet’, stating that the original name “felt so aggressive to me after a while” and made her question her choice.

From soulful pop to rap to jazz and funk, Doja Cat has shown her mastery of multiple genres and her ability to create unique music. Her mesmerizing cover of Hiatus Kaiyote’s ‘Red Room’ on BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge Month will certainly be remembered by fans for a long time.
