Travis Barker has detailed how the “power of love” has helped him overcome his fear of flying following a plane crash in 2008.
The Blink-182 drummer suffered serious injuries in the crash, which tragically killed four people. Barker was hospitalised for eleven weeks and underwent twenty-six surgeries and numerous skin grafts.
It wasn’t until 2021 that Barker was able to face his fear and board a plane again. He credited his wife, Kourtney Kardashian, for helping him travel by air.
“I think the power of love really helped me,” he told The Los Angeles Times. “Kourt made it so I fly, my kids fly now. She healed us.”
The musician went on to explain that although he is now able to travel by plane, the stress and anxiety it causes him is unbearable.
“It takes a little piece of my life every time I fly,” he said. “It brings up all this old trauma, and sometimes I’m like, ‘Is this worth it?’ But I don’t like anything having a hold on me, either — I don’t like being afraid, and I don’t like having things from my past control my future.”
Barker recently paid tribute to those who lost their lives in the crash, posting a tribute to his Instagram stories.
He and his bandmates, Tom Delonge and Mark Hoppus, have gone on to tour for their latest album, One More Time. However, their UK and Ireland shows had to be rescheduled for 2024 due to a family emergency concerning Kourtney Kardashian, who is expecting their child.
Remaining tickets for the upcoming shows in the US and UK can be found online.
Aside from touring, Barker recently reflected on the struggles he faced with his bandmates in Blink-182. He was also recently immortalised with a waxwork at Madame Tussauds.
