Pop star Dua Lipa has created a buzz among her fans with the cryptic video message she posted on Instagram. The clip features a snippet of her singing, “Tell me all the ways you’ll need me” and a series of numbers that, when translated, spell out the word ‘Houdini’.
The post comes on the anniversary of the famed magician and escapologist’s death in 1926, and the singer is seen wearing a golden key necklace, a reference to Houdini’s method of escape. The video also brings to mind Kate Bush’s 1982 album cover for ‘The Dreaming’, which features the singer holding a key in her mouth, and the track ‘Houdini’ which appears on the album.
This is not the first time that Lipa has teased her fans with bits of music from her upcoming album, which is said to be due for release in 2024. In the weeks leading up to this post, the singer shared several clips of music, each accompanied with a message of “I’m not here for long” and “Catch me before I go”.
Last year, the British singer told Elton John that the album was 50% complete, only to walk the statement back in December. Speaking to the New York Times Magazine in August, Lipa said the new album is a departure from her previous work, and is “still pop but it’s different sonically, and there’s more of a lyrical theme.”
Mark Ronson, who collaborated with Lipa on ‘Barbie’, has heard some of the album and described it as “incredible”. Fans of the artist are eagerly awaiting the release of her third album, and in the meantime they can enjoy the suspense of her teasers.
