Jack Antonoff of Bleachers performed the band’s latest single, ‘Modern Girl,’ on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last night (November 1). The song was highlighted by the presence of saxophones and was the band’s first release on independent label Dirty Hit. It follows their 2021 album ‘Take The Sadness Out Of Yesterday.’

Jack Antonoff has worked with Jamie Oborne and his team at Dirty Hit to release the single and is “very proud” of the collaboration. The label is also home to artists like The 1975, Rina Sawayama, Wolf Alice, and Beabadoobee.

NME gave the group’s 2021 album four stars, noting that it captures “the aftermath of Antonoff’s 2018 break-up with actor-director Lena Dunham, the feeling of wanting to break free from his native New Jersey, the intense longing to play with his band when pandemic restrictions made it impossible.” It went on to say that it’s “glimpses of that here, but also moments that leave you ruminating on your own need for escape, to run away from – or towards – something. It might not leave you feeling as euphoric as what’s come before, but its lingering sensation is a testament to the power of Antonoff’s immersive songwriting.”

The single was featured in the final season of the Netflix series Sex Education and will be featured on the group’s upcoming album. Fans of Bleachers, indie music, and Jack Antonoff should be sure to give ‘Modern Girl’ a listen and watch the performance on The Tonight Show.
