Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page made a special appearance at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Ceremony last night (November 3). The ceremony honored the late roots guitarist Link Wray with the Musical Influence Award and Page was there to pay tribute. He performed Wray’s classic ‘Rumble’ to honor him.
Iggy Pop also made a contribution to the video celebrating the musician. A video of Page’s performance can be seen here.
Tom Morello was on hand to accept Rage Against the Machine’s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Ice-T inducted the band, but band members Zack de la Rocha, Tim Commerford and Brad Wilk were not in attendance. Morello gave a politically motivated speech and was seen backstage with his trophy and a note that read “Ceasefire” in reference to the ongoing war in Israel and Palestine.
St. Vincent performed a version of ‘Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)’ to honor the induction of Kate Bush into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Bush was not in attendance, but released a statement saying she was “completely blown away” by the honor. Elton John, David Gilmour, Peter Gabriel and St. Vincent contributed to the video package honoring Bush. Big Boi gave a speech at the ceremony, calling her a “true visionary”.
The 2023 Hall of Fame class also included Sheryl Crow, Missy Elliott, Willie Nelson, George Michael and The Spinners. It was a night of tributes, celebration and honoring the incredible musical accomplishments of all the inductees.
