Australian folk rockers The Waifs have been forced to postpone their upcoming show in Geelong, Australia due to lead singer Donna Simpson’s recovery from injuries sustained in an e-scooter accident.

The band issued a statement on Facebook yesterday (November 7) confirming the postponement and explaining that Simpson was hospitalised for broken ribs and collapsed lungs after an e-scooter crash in Broome, Western Australia on September 4.

“Four broken ribs, two collapsed lungs and a bunch of bruises later, I have realised E Scooters, and I don’t mix,” Simpson commented. “I am resting and recovering well and will be ready to go in time for Day On The Green in December.”

The Waifs’ show in Geelong will now take place on March 8, 2024, and all current tickets will remain valid for the new date.

The band will still be performing at the Handpicked Festival in Adelaide this Saturday, although Simpson will not be in attendance. The remaining four band members will be delivering a special four-piece set in her absence.

The Waifs have been making music since 1992, when Vicki Thorn, Donna Simpson, Josh Cunningham, Ben Fraz and David Ross Macdonald joined forces. Their 2003 album Up All Night achieved double platinum status, while their singles ‘London Still’ and ‘Lighthouse’ consistently made it into triple j’s Hottest 100. In 2003 they had the honour of supporting Bob Dylan on his Australian tour.

The Waifs’ ‘Up All Night’ 20th anniversary tour will continue with further dates in Queensland, Western Australia and New South Wales.
