Pop powerhouse Taylor Swift has been asked to use her platform to help locate and return a teenage Israeli soldier, Roni Eshel, who has been missing since the Hamas attacks in October. Swifties in Israel are wearing bracelets with Eshel’s name to Taylor’s Era tour screenings in the country, in an effort to raise awareness of the 19-year-old’s disappearance.
Eshel is a huge fan of Swift and has been a member of the Israel Defence Forces for a year and two months. She was part of the team at an army base near Kibbutz Nahal Oz who watched the cameras placed on the high-tech barrier that was breached by Hamas.
Israel’s Foreign Ministry took to Twitter to request Swift’s help in bringing Eshel home. In response to the request, the ministry received support from Drake, Jennifer Lopez, and Adam Lambert, who have all signed an open letter calling for a ceasefire in the Israel-Palestine conflict, and asking US President Joe Biden and Congress to push for the decision that would bring “an end to the bombing of Gaza” and “the safe release of hostages”.
Though Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has stated that Israel would never agree to a ceasefire, Swifties internationally hope that Taylor will use her platform to help bring the missing soldier home safely.
