Taylor Swift fans have been eagerly awaiting the highly anticipated Eras Tour, and their wait has finally paid off! Sydney tickets for the tour have officially sold out, with additional tickets for Melbourne going on sale at 4pm AEDT today (November 10).
The tour, which was announced in June, broke records for the event ticketing website, Ticketek, with four million people queuing up to buy the 450,000 tickets available for five shows taking place across Melbourne and Sydney in February 2021.
Due to the high demand, Frontier Touring then announced that two additional shows would be added to the original five, with Swift set to play three shows at the Melbourne Cricket Grounds between February 16-18 and four shows at Accor Stadium in Sydney between February 23-26.
Yesterday, Frontier announced that additional tickets would go on sale today, including for partially obstructed side tickets that would be released at a starting price of $79.90. Ticketek Marketplace will also be open from 10am AEDT on Friday November 24 2023 for the official resale of tickets.
It didn’t take long for the new allocation of Sydney tickets to be snapped up, with Frontier announcing at 11.19am that inventory had been exhausted. Fans were even spotted camping out overnight at the Ticketek offices in Melbourne and Sydney in hopes of getting a ticket.
The tour has been classified as a “major event” by Victoria’s Minister for Tourism Steve Dimopoulos, and Victoria’s anti-scalping laws will come into play. This means that any ticket sold for over 110 percent of its value it becomes invalid, and scalpers will face fines of anywhere between $925 to $554,760.
Swift’s last tour in Australia was for her ‘Reputation’ tour in 2018, and since then she’s released four new albums including ‘Lover’, ‘Folkore’, ‘Evermore’ and ‘Midnights’. She’s also re-released several others as part of the ‘Taylor’s Version’ project, the most recent being ‘1989’.
It is safe to say that Swift is back and better than ever, and the tickets for her Eras Tour are the hottest thing in town. Fans of the singer-songwriter won’t want to miss out on this one!
