Ozzy Osbourne and His Family: What Does It Mean To Be A ‘Karen’?

Posted by

Ozzy Osbourne and his family have taken the world by storm since their reality TV series, The Osbournes, aired on MTV in 2002. Just recently, a clip emerged of the Black Sabbath frontman being schooled by his family about the meaning of the term “Karen”.

In the latest episode of The Osbournes Podcast, Ozzy revealed he had met someone the night before with the name Karen, but was confused by the woman’s explanation that she wasn’t actually a Karen. To explain, daughter Kelly then told the rest of the family that the woman was trying to explain what a “Karen” was.

The term “Karen” has become a popular meme in recent years, referring to a certain type of middle-class white woman who displays behaviours associated with entitlement and privilege. Jack Osbourne then went on to explain the term, saying “you know when Mum [Sharon] goes mental at places and something goes awry? She’s a secret Karen. I’ve seen you get pretty Karen-y.”

After pondering if he himself was a “Karen” without knowing it, Ozzy was reassured by his son Jack, who said, “you are the least Karen person ever. I don’t think I’ve ever been anywhere with you where you’ve complained to a manager, complained to anyone. You just kind of sit there and take it. You get quiet.”

The episode also addressed the possibility of the family reviving their reality TV series, with Ozzy and Jack both saying it “won’t happen again” and that it would “never” happen “in a million years”. Ozzy explained that the show was “intrusive” and that there were hidden cameras everywhere.

The Osbournes have certainly had an interesting journey since the show first aired, and fans of the family will be sure to stay tuned for more updates from the iconic rock’n’roll family.
