G-Dragon’s Exclusive Contract With YG Entertainment Comes to an End

Today (June 6), iconic K-pop artist G-Dragon’s exclusive contract with YG Entertainment has come to an end. This is after the artist debuted as the leader of boyband Big Bang under the label in 2006. Despite the contract ending, YG Entertainment have stated that they are still working with G-Dragon on other activities such as commercial work.

The news of G-Dragon’s contract expiring comes days after Big Bang bandmate T.O.P announced that he has “withdrawn” from the group. T.O.P had left YG Entertainment in February 2022, following a prolonged hiatus. In addition, Taeyang and Daesung left YG Entertainment at the end of 2022. Taeyang, however, remains part of the “YG Family” after signing with subsidiary The Black Label.

Since then, Taeyang has released the mini-album ‘Down to Earth’, the long-awaited follow-up to 2017’s ‘White Night’. The project includes the hit single ‘Shoong’, which features BLACKPINK’s Lisa.

It is as yet unclear what G-Dragon’s next steps will be, with YG Entertainment stating that they “plan to discuss an additional contract with G-Dragon when he resumes his musical activities”. However, G-Dragon had previously stated that he had plans for a new album this year, so an announcement is likely to come soon.

G-Dragon is a legendary figure in the K-pop industry and fans are eagerly awaiting the announcement of his next musical project. Stay tuned for further updates.
