Sigur Rós Drop Captivating New Single ‘Blóðberg’ After Seven Year Hiatus

It’s been seven years since Icelandic post-rock veterans Sigur Rós released new music, but the wait is finally over! The band have just dropped ‘Blóðberg’, their first single in over half a decade.

Clocking in at a whopping seven minutes long, ‘Blóðberg’ is an ethereal and timeless track that features contributions from the London Contemporary Orchestra, conducted by Robert Ames. The single also marks the return of multi-instrumentalist Kjartan Sveinsson, who left the group in 2012.

The song was mixed and co-produced by Paul Corely, who has worked with the band throughout their career. The accompanying music video was directed by Johan Renck, who is best known for his work on HBO’s Chernobyl and videos for artists like Madonna, Robyn and Beyoncé.

The single comes just before the band’s highly anticipated European and North American tour, which kicks off at Meltdown Festival in the UK on Friday (June 16). The band will be accompanied by the London Contemporary Orchestra for the festival and their European tour dates, and by the Wordless Music Orchestra for their North American shows.

The tour follows their 20th-anniversary reissue of their third studio album, ‘( )’, which was remastered by engineer Ted Jenson and contains B-sides and previously unreleased demos.

Sigur Rós fans have been left wondering what a new album will sound like since the band teased they were “in the process of writing and recording” last February. With ‘Blóðberg’ now out, it’s clear the group are back and better than ever – and we can’t wait to hear more!
