Taylor Swift Announces Five Australian Dates on ‘Eras’ World Tour, But Skips Brisbane

Taylor Swift announced five Australian stops on her ‘Eras’ world tour, set to take place in February 2024. Two shows will take place at Melbourne’s Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) and three shows at Sydney’s Accor Stadium. Sabrina Carpenter will be the supporting act for all shows.

However, fans in Brisbane were left disappointed, after it was revealed that Taylor Swift had initially considered holding shows at Lang Park Stadium, but these were ultimately dropped, according to Harvey Lister, Chair of ASM Global Asia Pacific.

Lister explained that the dates were dropped due to time constraints, saying “Australia got sandwiched” after “dates around the world fell into place”. Swift typically dedicates a week to each city for her ‘Eras’ tour, leaving only Sydney and Melbourne able to fit her schedule before she heads to Singapore.

Despite the size of Lang Park Stadium, which can hold around 60,000 concertgoers, being able to accommodate the tour, Lister also addressed the idea of building a larger temporary arena, saying “The MCG (in Melbourne) did 107,000… they are huge numbers and you wouldn’t fill those stadiums for their day-to-day use, and you certainly wouldn’t build one just to try and get an occasional concert.”

This marks the first time Taylor Swift has skipped Brisbane while touring Australia, having included the city in all five of her previous tours. She also made her Australia debut in Brisbane in 2009, performing at The Tivoli theatre in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley.

American Express VIP Package pre-sale tickets for Swift’s Australian shows are available from Monday, June 26. Frontier Member Pre-sale tickets and VIP packages are available from Wednesday, June 28, with general ticket sales beginning on Friday, June 30. Tickets for the Australian leg of the ‘Eras’ tour will only be available from Monday, February 12, 2024.
