Travis Scott’s highly-anticipated ‘Utopia’ launch concert and livestream from the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt have been cancelled. Live Nation Middle East confirmed the news on social media, citing “complex production issues” as the cause. All ticket holders will be refunded via their point of purchase.
The news follows reports from the Egyptian Musicians Syndicate earlier this month that the show would no longer go ahead, citing safety concerns and the “peculiar rituals performed by the star during his performance” that allegedly contradicted “authentic societal values and traditions.” Live Nation soon afterwards refuted these claims, saying that there had been “no changes to Travis Scott’s show in Egypt.”
Utopia’ marks the follow-up to the rapper’s acclaimed 2018 effort ‘Astroworld’, which earned a five-star review from NME and was hailed as the sound of a musician who had worked to forge an entire world around himself. The album will be accompanied by a film, Circus Maximus, and is set for release on July 28.
In recent news, it was announced that Travis Scott would not face charges following the deadly incident at Astroworld Music Festival in 2021. During Scott’s headline performance, thousands of people were injured when an over-capacity crowd surged towards the stage, resulting in the death of 10 people aged between nine and 27.
