Rapper Travis Scott has released his highly anticipated new album ‘Utopia’, featuring collaborations from some of the biggest names in music.
The album comes shortly after the Houston-born artist faced a grand jury decision to not indict him over the tragic Astroworld Festival incident, where thousands of fans were injured and 10 people were killed by compressive asphyxiation.
Scott’s lawyer Kent Schaffer confirmed that a jury had met and chosen not to indict his client, and denied any wrongdoing from the rapper. “He never encouraged people to do anything that resulted in other people being hurt,” Schaffer said. “Travis is not responsible. Bringing criminal charges against him will not ease [the victim’s] pain.”
At the time of the incident, Scott said he was “devastated” but was unaware of the severity of the events until he left the stage. Later, thousands of plaintiffs came forward asking for potential damages totaling in the billions.
In response to the tragedy, the Houston Police Department released a full report of 1,266 pages detailing accounts from festival attendees, Astroworld organisers and police officers. The report can be accessed online, providing an in-depth look into the incident.
The release of Travis Scott’s new album ‘Utopia’ brings a welcomed distraction for fans of the rapper, and features collaborations with some of the biggest names in music including Beyoncé, The Weeknd, Young Thug and Drake.
