Hayley Williams Slams Sexism After Postponing Paramore’s North American Tour Due to Illness

Paramore’s Hayley Williams recently spoke out against some sexist internet trolls after they criticized her for postponing three gigs due to illness. The band had to delay their concert in San Francisco, Seattle, Portland and Salt Lake City for the sake of their health and the quality of the show they could put on.

The vocalist explained that touring is not the same now as it was when she was sixteen, and that her body had simply given out after performing in Houston earlier this month. Williams then took to Instagram Stories to call out a troll who suggested that bands such as Metallica and Iron Maiden manage to tour regardless of their age, and that she should be able to do the same.

The Paramore frontwoman clapped back at the troll, pointing out that she has a lung infection and that the shows were merely postponed, not cancelled. She also argued that the other bands the troll mentioned do not treat their fans as if they have to suck their dicks for liking them.

Williams also responded to another person who cited Dave Grohl’s performance after breaking his leg at a Foo Fighters concert. She reminded the troll that her illness is different to a broken leg, and that she could not possibly sing for two hours in her current state.

The Paramore singer has spoken out against sexism in the music industry before, saying that she does not feel comfortable playing guitar on stage due to sexist comments. She has also been trying to lean into her femininity and empower that part of herself in her career.

The North American tour will end in Salt Lake City on August 13. Fans can buy tickets online and the band is touring in support of their sixth studio album, ‘This Is Why’. Paramore will also be joining Taylor Swift on her Eras Tour in May 2024.
