Semisonic, the Minneapolis-based band famed for their 1998 hit single ‘Closing Time’ and ‘Secret Smile’, have released their first album in over two decades. Entitled ‘Little Bit Of Sun’, the record was released via Pleasuresonic Recordings on November 3rd and features collaborations with Jason Isbell and Jim James of My Morning Jacket.
The band, comprised of Dan Wilson, John Munson and Jacob Slichter, reunited in 2017 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their debut album ‘Great Divide’ and subsequently released the EP ‘You’re Not Alone’ in 2020.
Their latest single, ‘The Rope’, is accompanied by an accompanying video which you can watch below. The song is one of twelve featured on the new album, with others including ‘Grow Your Own’, ‘Don’t Fade Away’ and ‘It Wasn’t Like We Hoped It Would Be’.
Speaking about the reunion and new album, frontman Dan Wilson credited Liam Gallagher as the inspiration behind the band’s return. After having a meeting with the former Oasis frontman, Wilson submitted songs to Gallagher, only to be informed that his album was already complete. This prompted Wilson to realise that the song he’d written sounded like Semisonic, and this led to the band’s reunion and the release of ‘Little Bit Of Sun’.
The album is now available for streaming and purchase, and Semisonic are set to embark on a tour to support the release.
