The Linda Lindas have taken the music world by storm with their catchy tunes, and their success was recently solidified when they had the chance to open for Paramore at Lollapalooza 2023. The four-piece rock band – Bela Salazar and Lucia de la Garza on guitar, Eloise Wong on bass, and Mila de la Garza on drums – are no strangers to the stage, having previously opened for The Breeders, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Blondie and more.
But it was the advice they received from Paramore’s frontwoman Hayley Williams that truly put them on the path to success.
In an interview with NME before their set at the Chicago festival, Salazar shared the best advice Williams gave them as they were starting out: “When things started happening for us, Hayley told us no is just as powerful as yes and that you need to know that it is okay to say no to things. You don’t have to say yes to everything. A lot of things come your way and I think you need to be true to yourself and if you don’t want to do something then you shouldn’t do it.”
This is especially important for new bands, who may be tempted to take on more than they can handle. Drummer Mila de la Garza added, “It’s really easy to get caught up in everything that is happening and be like ‘Oh yeah we want to do that and we want to do that too’ but I think it’s good just to be able to know that you can take a break sometimes and not do everything all at once.”
The Linda Lindas recently released a new single called “Resolution/Revolution”, which Lucia de la Garza said is about “how doing small things to make a difference is better than not doing anything at all.” The band is currently working on an album and will be performing as support for the Yeah Yeah Yeahs in Mexico this October.
The Linda Lindas are certainly a band to watch out for, and with Paramore’s Hayley Williams’s advice ringing in their ears, they’re sure to continue to make great strides in the music world.
