Lana Del Rey recently performed a mesmerizing rendition of Tammy Wynette’s iconic 1968 song ‘Stand By Your Man’ at a show in Arkansas. The track is one of the most popular and well-known country songs of all time, co-written by Wynette and Billy Sherrill. Its controversial message of women staying with their cheating partners proved polarising against the backdrop of the fight for women’s liberation.
Del Rey’s 2021 album ‘Chemtrails Over The Country Club’ includes a song featuring collaborator Nikki Lane, titled ‘Breaking Up Slowly’, where Lane sings, “I don’t wanna live with a life of regret/I don’t wanna end up like Tammy Wynette”.
Recently, Del Rey also headlined the final day of Lollapalooza in Chicago. NME gave the performance a five-star review, noting that the artist’s presence was “messy and clean, immaculately planned but with space for chaos”.
In other news, pictures of Del Rey modelling ponchos in a knitting book have resurfaced. The photos, which were shared on TikTok, show the singer-songwriter in a range of colourful knitted jumpers. It is believed the images were published in 2013 in the book ’24 Ponchos: Cozy Chill Chasers You’ll Love To Knit.’
