Croatian musician and content creator Denis Pauna recently paid homage to the iconic American heavy metal band Metallica by performing their classic 1983 album ‘Kill ‘Em All’ in the style of Southern rock band ZZ Top. The 40-minute video, posted to Pauna’s YouTube channel, shows off his incredible guitar skills and impressive ability to recreate the Metallica album in an entirely new sound.
The video has been met with wide acclaim from fans of both bands, with comments claiming Pauna’s performance sounds “way better than it has any right to” and wishing they could relax and listen to the set live at a bar. It follows a series of other videos from Pauna’s channel, such as reimagining what Barbie Girl would sound like as a “southern metal song”, and “if Rammstein wrote Bon Jovi‘s ‘Livin’ On A Prayer’.”
In June, Metallica released their new ‘Amsterdam Sessions’ live EP, featuring ’72 Seasons’ cuts ‘Lux Æterna’ and ‘If Darkness Had A Son’, alongside classics ‘Master Of Puppets’ and ‘Nothing Else Matters’. The band also recently made headlines after frontman James Hetfield admitted to calling Kip Winger to apologise for dissing him in the ‘Nothing Else Matters’ video.
Denis Pauna’s unique take on Metallica’s ‘Kill ‘Em All’ is a fitting tribute to the album’s 40th anniversary, and a great example of how one artist can take inspiration from another to create something entirely new.
