Paul McCartney Pays Respects to Late Composer Carl Davis

Paul McCartney has paid his respects to the late Carl Davis, a composer, conductor, and arranger who passed away following a brain haemorrhage on August 3. McCartney and Davis collaborated to write the famous ‘Liverpool Oratorio’ and shared a musical partnership that spanned several decades.

“It was my first full-length classical venture and I really enjoyed working with him to make it happen,” McCartney shared on social media. “I would show up at his house and we would start writing. I would suggest an idea and he would write it down on the manuscript paper which made it easy for him to play the idea back to me and we progressed like that. He was a very skilful and fun man to be with.”

The two had the pleasure of premiering their work at Liverpool Cathedral, an event which McCartney noted was “very exciting” for him as someone who had previously failed an audition for the choir there.

Davis was also awarded a BAFTA and Ivor Novello award for his work on the 1981 movie The French Lieutenant’s Woman, and he scored the BBC’s 1995 adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. His family released a statement saying that they were “so proud that Carl’s legacy will be his astonishing impact on music.”

In other news, McCartney recently announced his first Australian tour in six years and is rumored to be planning an international tour. Fans of the star are eagerly awaiting more news on his upcoming projects.
